DANGO fishing is a form of fishing where hook baits are wrapped inside a DANGO and lowered to the sea bottom to catch fish. When smaller fish near the water surface are quite active, they eat the hook bait soon after it is cast into the water and it cannot reach the bigger target fish you are trying to catch. DANGO fishing is often effective in this kind of situation. By wrapping the hook bait in a DANGO, you can protect it from being eaten by smaller fish and it can reach the sea bottom easily. The DANGO starts to break up once the bigger target fish arrive, and then the hook bait is released for them to eat it. It is possible to do this form of fishing from rafts or embankments, and often takes place in Japan, Hong Kong and Korea. DANGO fishing can be broadly divided into KAKARI fishing, which takes place directly below you, and UKI DANGO fishing, where a float is cast into the sea.
